Gpx2go! serves as a comprehensive GPS track recorder and GPX file editor, offering functionalities that cater to both casual users and professionals. It automatically logs positional data over time while enabling manual placement of markers for notable locations.
The application conforms strictly to the GPX v1.0 standard for data organization. Users can transfer waypoints, trackpoints, track segments, and entire tracks within the application's database, with capabilities to display these on maps and modify them as needed. It supports importing GPX files from other sources and exporting completed files through various methods, including direct transfer via iTunes, sharing with other applications, or email attachments.
Compared to other GPS tracking applications with GPX export options, Gpx2go! introduces several distinct features:

<li>Automatic Place Name Resolution: Integrates Apple's reverse geocoding service to provide human-readable location identifiers automatically.</li>
<li>Intelligent Accuracy Settings: Features a dialog that prevents incompatible parameter combinations—such as low battery consumption with high accuracy—to ensure meaningful track recordings.</li>
<li>Rigorous GPX Validation: Outputs are meticulously validated against official XML schemas, reducing errors common in other applications.</li>
<li>Extended GPX Data Fields: Records additional parameters including speed, course, elevation, as well as horizontal and vertical accuracy. Tracks can be named; waypoints and trackpoints can have both short titles and detailed descriptions.</li>
<li>Proper Track Segmentation: Clearly distinguishes between tracks and their segments, addressing a common oversight in competitor software.</li>
<li>Complete Data Control: Users retain full ownership over their GPX files without compulsory uploads or memberships; files are accessible via iTunes or email transfer.</li>
<li>User Interface Flexibility: Supports both portrait and landscape modes across all functionalities for optimal usability.</li>
<li>Unit Measurement Options: Offers support for metric and imperial units to accommodate global preferences.</li>

The app’s privacy policy emphasizes local data storage: all positional and related data remain on the device unless explicitly backed up via iCloud. Position data derived from APIs such as CLGeocoder (for place names) and MapKit (for maps) may involve interactions with Apple servers but are not transmitted to the app developer. It is important to note that GPS tracking continues in background mode unless manually halted, which may impact battery life.
